Orlumet is currently in the commercialization phase for its advanced nanocomposite surface coating platform technology. Our innovative surface coating technology is capable of significantly improving the biointegration process for a wide range of implantable medical devices, particularly those constructed from titanium, polymers, or ceramics.
Dental Implants: Orlumet’s bioactive surface coatings are engineered to enhance the attachment and accelerate the proliferation of osteoblasts at the surface of the implant. Our technology is versatile, and allows for the ability to incorporate:
- Hydroxyapatite particles for enhanced bone mineralization
- Antibiotics that can be released over a prolonged period to reduce the probability of implant failure due to bacterial infection and biofilm formation
- Other biomaterials, including growth factors (BMPs)
Orthopedic Implants: Similar to dental implant failure, orthopedic implant failure is generally attributed to either loosening of the implant (poor bone proliferation/attachment at the implant surface) or bacterial infection. These failures necessitate very costly, painful, and time-consuming revision surgeries. Orlumet’s bioactive surface coatings are engineered to enhance the attachment and accelerate the proliferation of osteoblasts at the surface of the implant. Our technology is versatile, and allows for the ability to incorporate:
- Antibiotics that can be released over a prolonged period to reduce the probability implant failure due to bacterial infection and biofilm formation.
- Hydroxyapatite for enhanced bone mineralization.
- Other biomaterials, including growth factors (BMPs).
Orlumet’s surface coating technologies also have the potential to improve the biointegration process of other medical devices, including:
- Stents
- Pacemakers
- Catheters
- Scaffolds for tissue regeneration
